The Army division where a soldier went on a deadly rampage killing eight fellow servicemen last Sunday saw an eerily similar incident 20 years ago, it was revealed Wednesday. At the time, an enlisted man fired at senior fellow soldiers, also killing eight and injuring four. The division guards the front-line in the DMZ.

A military official said Wednesday a soldier identified by his surname Park in the same division killed the senior servicemen with a rifle in February 1985 after he suffered relentless bullying and harassment at their hands. He said Park fired dozens of shots on returning to barracks from his shift.

The eight soldiers are buried in the National Cemetery in Daejon. The incident was not made public at the time, and a court martial sentenced Park to death.
