A 23-year-old private went to a fiery death in a chemicals storeroom at an Army unit near the DMZ on Sunday, the same day another private went on a shooting rampage that left eight comrades dead and wounded two driven out of his mind by bullying from a comrade.
¡°After putting out a fire set in a warehouse where flammable products like paint and thinners were stored, we found Private Kim dead,¡± said an officer at the unit in Cheolwon County, Gangwon Province. No suicide note was found.
But military police believe Kim entered the warehouse through a window and doused himself with chemicals before setting himself on fire. The army is questioning soldiers at the unit to discover the cause of Kim¡¯s death.
