Body Makeup Boosts Summer Cosmetics Sales
Makeup is no longer just for the face but for the entire body, if cosmetics companies have their way.

The companies say women in their 20s and 30s are snapping up their body makeup products to lightly color their arms, legs and shoulders to give their skin a tauter look. Amore Pacific's Laneige started what the firms pray will be a craze when it marketed its body makeup products using star actress Jeon Ji-hyun¡¯s ¡°million-dollar body¡± in a commercial. Lancome, Bobbi Brown and other domestic and foreign cosmetics firms are also attacking the stores with body makeup.

Amore Pacific says its cosmetics store HUE Young sells up to about 100 body makeup products a day. A spokesman said summer is usually the low season for cosmetics, but with body makeup driving sales this year, the company sold in just three weeks 75 percent of what it usually sells in the three months of summer.

A lot of working women in their 20s come in looking for body makeup products. There are also a lot of young men buying them as gifts for their girlfriends,¡± a cosmetics salesperson said.

The interest in body makeup is not unrelated to bolder women's fashions. The more skin they show, the more room there is for makeup. A new-found fashion for tanned skin is also helping sales. Lancome's Ryu Ji-yeon said, "Going to tanning salons costs a lot of money, but with the right cosmetics, you can achieve the tanned look for much less money. If you tan yourself in the sun, you get freckles, but body makeup can cover these up."
