TV commercials for Samsung's "Anycall" cell phone featuring North Korean dancer Cho Myong-ae and South Korea's Lee Hyo-lee will hit the airways from June 11. The ad campaign, entitled "Sound of One," is divided into four installments, the first two of which will be simultaneously broadcast until June 24. The storyline takes place against the background of a joint North-South artistic performance, and focuses on the first meeting between Cho and Lee, the curiosity and goodwill they feel toward each other, and their sympathy for one another as young Koreans.

In the first episode, the North Korean performs a dance balancing a water jar on her head while Lee watches on her satellite DMB phone. "It's the first time I see her, yet she doesn't seem unfamiliar," Lee comments. In the second episode, Cho watches Lee and says, "The moment I first saw Hyo-lee, I though, 'She is really beautiful.'" The third and fourth episodes -- "Meeting" and "Gift" -- will be broadcast from June 24 to July 29.
People will be able to see footage from the making of the ads when the first two episodes hit the air on the Anucall website (www.anycall.com), in a "making of" video showing behind-the-scenes footage from the filming in China, and a two-minute edit of all four commercials in one.
The clips were filmed in Shanghai in April, with a second round of filming scheduled for late June. A "Concert" episode will feature the two artists performing hand-in-hand, and in the "Recollection" episode, the two look back on a joyful day spent together and their pledge to meet again. Cheil Communications, which made the commercials, wants Cho to come to South Korea for filming but is reportedly running into difficulty with North Korea.
