Hwang Woo-suk Criticizes Bush's Stem Cell Policy
Korean scientist Hwang Woo-suk criticized the Bush Administration's policy of not supporting stem cell research, saying the policy impedes U.S. potential to make medical breakthroughs.

Dr. Hwang, the head of a South Korean research team who cloned the first human embryo for research purposes, said in an interview with Reuters that stem cell science should not be halted by political interests. He added that finding solutions to incurable diseases is very honorable and is a common responsibility of humanity.

Earlier this month, Dr. Hwang's team surprised the world with their latest advance in stem cell research in which they cloned human embryonic stem cells that match individual patients, taking a big step forward in the quest for human replacement tissues.
