Telecom provider KTF will launch a music portal site named Dosirac from May 25, the company said Tuesday, joining competition with Korea¡¯s other two telecom providers in the online music market. SK Telecom and LG Telecom launched their online music services Melon and Music On late last year.
With Dosirac, music buffs can download MP3 music files from the Internet to cell phones or MP3 players for a W5,000 (US$50) monthly fee. They can hear also music on the site at a monthly W3,000 or pay per download.
KTF said it has secured rights to use 480,000 songs with a plan to entice 300,000 subscribers by the end of the year. Website DC Inside¡¯s recent poll of Internet users shows that 32.8 percent of respondents use premium music websites. The Korea IT Industry Promotion Agency expects the volume of the domestic online music market to grow from W201.4 billion ($201.4 million) in 2004 to W230.6 billion this year.
