Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have reached a draft framework agreement on a free trade pact. Officials at the Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry say the agreement came after a three-day talks in Seoul, raising hopes that the two sides will finally sign the treaty just in time for the Korea-ASEAN summit set for December.
The two sides also agreed to hold at least three more meetings until October to work on details of the proposed FTA that calls for duty exemption on 80 percent of products to be traded. Seoul says it plans to sign a deal that concerns investment and the service sectors within next year.
