Health Cover for Foreign Workers to Become Mandatory
Health insurance for foreign workers will become mandatory in Korea from next year. Currently it is up to workers whether they want insurance.

Uri lawmaker Rhee Mok-hee said Friday the party and government agreed to revise the health insurance law for parliamentary approval in June. Rhee said a revision was inevitable to meet international human rights standards.

But even if the law is revised, it will apply only to foreign workers who come to Korea once it goes into effect. Some 38 percent of 250,000 foreigners working legally in Korea, or 90,000, currently have health insurance.
