This April fifth, Arbor Day in Korea saw outbreaks of massive forest fires. The Korea Forest Service says after nearly 10 hours of battling strong winds and dry conditions, local firefighters and soldiers have contained and extinguished the fire in Yangyang, Kangwon Province, eastern Korea.

Authorities say the fire, which initially broke out sometime around midnight at a mountain hill, spread to 12 nearby villages. Some 700 residents had to evacuate the area. There were no reports of casualties.
