Korean Women Just Hate Their Looks
After the BBC reported that 50 percent of Korean women in their 20s have had some form of plastic surgery, a slimming business now claims Korean women are the least satisfied with their looks in six Asian countries.

The Hong Kong branch of MarieFrance Bodyline clubbed together with MSN Hong Kong to conduct a survey of 7,235 women from Asian countries where the company has offices - Korea, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand - and found that 71 percent of Korean respondents were unhappy with their looks, the lowest satisfaction rate.

By contrast, some 57 percent of Hong Kong and 44 percent of Chinese respondents were unhappy as they were. Some 42 percent of Singaporean and 38 percent of Malaysian respondents appeared not to like themselves. Thailand had the highest satisfaction rate of 74 percent.

Asian women find their legs the most unsatisfactory part of their anatomy. Some 20.6 percent of all respondents found their legs wanting, followed by the waist with 17.3 percent, hips with 16.4 percent, skin with 11.2 percent, breasts with 11.0 percent, arms with 10.6 percent and face with 9.2 percent.

Korean insecurity may be explained by the fact that respondents from the peninsula were disproportionately obsessed with beauty. Some 38 percent said beautiful looks were the thing they wanted most, far higher than the regional average of 21.9 percent. Most Korean women also said keeping in good shape was necessary to enhance self-confidence and getting jobs.

MarieFrance Korea CEO Kim Sook-ja said the most important values for Asian women were self-satisfaction and beautiful looks, but added internal beauty was a condition for genuine beauty.
