Deoksung WomenĄŻs University Professor Lee Won-bok has dismissed online attacks on his "mistaken criticisms" of President Roh Moo-hyun's administrative style in the recently published 12th volume of his comic books series "Far Counties, Near Countries," which deals with U.S. presidents.
The online newspaper Pressian criticized Lee Thursday for coining terms like "Jacksamo" (a play on "Nasamo," President Roh's support group) and using other terms and expressions associated with the current Cheong Wa Dae occupant in connection with Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States. In the section on Chester A. Arthur, the 21st president of the U.S., Lee has the former U.S. leader say, "I'm doing a good job, but I'm taking abuse for no reason... It's all the media's fault... I wish all the newspapers were to disappear during media reform."
"Cartoons are supposed to poke fun at those in power and the strong, and [publications like Pressian] are taking it too seriously," Lee said. He added that young people tend to pass over a lot of things, and in three years time his book would no longer be a big deal.
