Time Picks LG Phone as Gadget of the Week
LG Electronics (LGE) said Tuesday that it has developed the world's fastest "3D Game-Phone." The 3D Game-Phone is the first cell phone ever armed with a 1 million polygon/second graphic accelerator chip, which is five times faster than existing products with 200,000 polygon/second chips, and allows users to play games with more minute and realistic 3D graphics.

In particular, the phone uses an innovative keypad design that allows users to play it using both hands, giving him or her that real video game feel. In addition to the direction keys, the phone is also equipped with "acceleration sensors" that allow the user to control the game by moving it up and down or left and right, maximizing game enjoyment. The phone carries leading game company Nexon's 3D games, a 1.3 million-pixel digital camera and a QVGA-class (320x240), 2.2-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) screen.

LGE said the product, which it put on display at the Consumer Electronics Show that ended in Las Vegas on Sunday, received much interest from the international media and young spectators. LGE said it would begin marketing the product in Korea in the first half of this year, targeting game fanatics. Afterwards, it would put it on the North American and European markets as a high-priced, premium product.
