¡°Tis the season to be jolly!¡± And what better way to enjoy the year's end than to meet up with friends or colleagues and look back over the year while tasting Korea's fine traditional liquor, soju. But after a night of debauchery, many experience the ill effects of over indulging in alcohol.
Korea's Rural Development Administration and the All-Russia Dairy Research and Development Institute have jointly developed a yogurt to help sober up drinkers. The new dairy product is made by the lactic fermentation of milk and is able to decompose alcohol and toxins in the body and even aids the functioning of the liver.
"The acid in the stomach is less likely to break the lactic ferment that produces alcohol dehydrogenase," said one Rural Development Administration official.
The agricultural research center tested people who all drank a bottle of soju. An hour after a test group had a sip of the yogurt drink, the level of alcohol in their blood dropped to more than half that of the another test group of drinkers.
"Usually, I can only drink up to a half bottle of soju. After having the yogurt, I felt much better inside," said one participant. The fermented milk is expected to hit the market stands next year.
