Zigbee Phones Predict the Future
Cell-phone manufacturer Pantech & Curitel said Tuesday that it has succeeded in developing the world's first mobile phone using Zigbee technology, a short distance communication technology used for home-networking systems, telematics and military operations that can, for example, aid navigation and control how cool your fridge is.

The technology can be applied to electrical home appliances, remote controls, computer keyboards and computer mice.

Pantech & Curitel said that Zigbee phones formed a key part of the convergence trend and would soon be ubiquitous - found in kitchens and cars alike. They can be programmed to switch electrical appliances on and off, as well as controlling the temperature, moisture and security equipment in domestic properties.

The mobile phone maker said it was waiting for the futuristic infrastructure to be built. It plans to officially unveil the new products when the required ubiquitous computing environment has been established.
