Jobless Group Decry Prejudice, Urge Anti-Unemployment Measures
The Association of Young Jobless convened a meeting Saturday at a cafe in Seoul to urge the government to devise measures that will combat rising unemployment among young people. Participants cited social ridicule in the form of comedy shows that parody their predicament as an added burden that was shoring up social prejudice against them.

They moved to launch a series of counter-unemployment measures aimed at protecting the rights of people without jobs to enjoy cultural activities without encountering prejudice.

Citing the issue of human rights, they called on the government to propose concrete policies to reduce unemployment, such as building job centers that could be run autonomously by local authorities, using the national lottery to subsidize an unemployment fund, and introducing a dedicated card that would entitle them to discounted transportation fares.

They named former lawmaker Hong Sa-duk as the group's desired public relations ambassador on the basis of his contributions to raising public awareness of jobless people's plight.
