The Japanese press reported Sunday that Japan¡¯s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Deputy Secretary General Shinzo Abe stressed the need to develop diplomatic strategies predicated on the possibility of regime change in North Korea.
Appearing on Fuji TV to talk about negotiations with North Korea to look into possible abductions of missing Japanese in the country, he said Japan had to consider the possibility of regime change in North Korea and needed to simulate what it would do if such a change took place.
He was also reported to say that while the Japanese government had said it worked to find what happened to the missing Japanese, he thought those efforts were more directed at covering up the incidents, adding that he doubted negotiations with the Kim Jong-il regime would produce any results.
