Samsung Electronics said Thursday it would be able to achieve revenues of US$4 billion this year for its mobile phone business in the U.S. market owing to the 18 kinds of advanced mobile phones it released in the market and various marketing activities suited to the local market environment. The revenues will more than double from last year.
Entering the U.S. mobile phone market in 1997, the company sold 12 million phones last year and 23 million phones up to October this year.
Samsung Electronics released in the U.S. market this year 18 kinds of cutting-edge mobile phones such as the World Phone, Mega Pixel VOD Phone, and Push-To-Talk (PTT) Phone that are competitive and can readily meet the demands of consumers.
Additionally, the company made firm bonds with local telecommunication service providers and conducted sports marketing such as the Olympic torch relay.
In particular, Samsung, in order to strengthen its control over the U.S. market, has organized a strategic partnership with Vogue Magazine, one of the representative women¡¯s fashion magazines in the U.S., and conducted fashion marketing. As a part of its fashion marketing, Samsung released a special mobile phone designed by famous New York designer Diane von Furstenberg, the SPH-A680. This mobile phone is introduced by Vogue magazine and Trend Watch TV, a fashion channel, and is on sale at Vogue¡¯s Internet homepage (www.style.com) as a limited edition.
Samsung, through its partnership with Vogue, will participate in the spring and autumn Vogue fashion shows -- unprecedented for a mobile phone manufacturer -- in order to emphasize the elegant designs and premium image of Samsung mobile phones through top fashion models.
Continuing its prosperity in the U.S. mobile phone market, Samsung expects to achieve US$4 billion in sales this year and fight with Nokia and Motorola next year by releasing the EV-DO terminal device, Wifi Phone, and multi-purpose mobile phones having Blue Tooth function, and by improving its image as a technology leader as well.
