President Roh Congratulates Bush on Re-election

Changes on the Korean Peninsula Following the U.S. Presidential Election
President Roh Moo-hyun sent a congratulatory message to U.S. President George W. Bush to congratulate him on his re-election after the final result of the U.S. presidential election result was finally ascertained early Thursday morning, saying ¡°We hope the two countries will exert great efforts for the sake of world peace and human prosperity, including peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.¡±

As a separate statement, Chong Wa Dae spokesman Kim Jong-min stated, ¡°The government sincerely welcomes the re-election of President Bush,¡± adding ¡°We attribute the victory of President Bush as America¡¯s selection concerning President Bush¡¯s excellent leadership shown over the past four years.¡±

¡°In order to lead a peaceful solution for the North Korean nuclear problem and for the sake of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and the prosperity of northeast Asia, we will cooperate with the U.S. administration more closely,¡± said Kim, adding ¡°Taking the re-election of President Bush as an opportunity, we hope the comprehensive and dynamic bilateral relationship between the two countries will be intensified and improved.¡±
