Concerning Monday's incident where North Korean patrol ships simultaneously crossed the Northern Limit Line in the West Sea, North Korean naval headquarters claimed Tuesday the South Korean military committed a grave military provocation against the North.

According to a report by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency, the North¡¯s naval headquarters said South Korean warships fired several shots at its patrol ships at 10:55 a.m. Monday while the North Korean ships were on normal patrol in Northern waters, which was clearly a military provocation against it. It denounced the incident as a challenge to North Korea.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry said three North Korean patrol ships violated the NLL in waters around Socheong and Yeonpyeong Island at around 10:54 on Monday, later retreating after receiving radio messages and warning shots from South Korean warships.
