Asiana Passenger Makes W2 Million UNICEF Donation
A passenger generously contributed W2 million to an airline that has been carrying out a charity project.

According to Asiana Airlines on Wednesday, a passenger, who left the country for Seattle on Aug. 25, put W2 million in cash in the UNICEF donation box set up at the Asiana lounge at the Incheon International Airport before his departure.

The contribution was the largest since the company started the charity project in 1994. Before this, the biggest amount was W120,000, or US$100. The passenger, a Korean-American, even asked the company to list his father, living in Korea, contributor instead of him.

Asiana has delivered W2.6 billion through the project for the last 10 years. A PR official at the company said, ¡°The average amount of contribution per person was W70 in the 1990s, but the amount has greatly dropped to around W30 these days. I had felt somewhat sad that people turned cold-hearted with the economic recession. But this news about the donation made me feel happy.¡±
