Concerns about violations of privacy are growing as the Ubiquitous (anywhere, anytime information access) technology develops.
¡ß Mini-cameras Lenses are Watching You.
Major handset makers such as Samsung, LG, and Pantech & Curitel are being forced to add clicking sounds to their camera phones when shooting, since the Ministry of Infromation and Communication (MIC) and Telecommunications Technology Association requiered all camera phones to have clicking noises as loud as 60db to 68db starting July.
However, several ways to mute the "clicking noise" are already spreading on the web. 15 million, nearly half of mobile phone users, own camera phones. With advances in definition and memory in the latest models, camera phones have become a tool for criminals such as industrial spies. It is very dangerous to visit saunas or swimming pools if you are a celebrity. Naked pictures of celebrities have been posted on the web. A security expert said, "You should think that at least three cameras are watching you when you're in public."
¡ß "I Know What You Bought Last Summer"
With the help of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chips on every single product customers can go through the counters of Future Stores, run by German group Metro, as quickly as posible. The company also runs a security system that disables the RFID chip for ones who fear the possibility of being watched. Consumer organizations such as Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion & Numbering (ASPIAN) oppose RFID tagging because other people can easily figure out ones purchase list.
¡ß Secure the Ubiquitous Society
Daily products company P&G of the U.S. has just established a RFID system, striving hard to disconnect the link between the customers' financial information and the system. Korean Information Security Association (KISA) has just scouted three officials with Ph.Ds in hopes to finding a solution to the security system in Ubiquitous society. Lee Hong-sub, director of the KISA, said, "In order for this new ubiquitous environment to safely take hold in our society, it is requisite that security problems like privacy invasion be solved in advance."
