Iraqi Militants Claim Killing of 12 Nepalese Hostages
This image claims to show some of 12 Nepalese workers kidnapped in Iraq
A militant group in Iraq says it has killed 12 Nepalese hostages, as hope grows for the safe release of two French journalists abducted by a different group.

In a video and photographs posted on an Islamist web site, a member of the Army of Ansar al-Sunna is shown beheading a blindfolded hostage. Then 11 other men are shot with an automatic rifle.

The Nepalese government said it could not immediately confirm the killings of its nationals, who were working for a Jordanian company in Iraq.

Meanwhile, VOA's Kurdish service has learned that two French journalists kidnapped by a different militant group may be handed over to Muslim religious authorities at a Baghdad mosque (Umm al Taboul) Tuesday.

But Muslim clerics in Baghdad say they have had no direct contact with the kidnappers.
