Korean comic books by popular cartoonists like Lee hyun-se have been published in English and have start to conquer the American market. Central Park Media (CPM), which imports Japanese Manga and animation works into the U.S and distributes them said Saturday that it recently delivered the English editions of "War Stories" by Lee Hyun-se and of "Full House" by Won Su-yeon to some bookstores.

"War Stores," describing an imaginary war between Korea and Japan, was published in Korea in 1995 and sold about 900,000 volumes. Now it is sold in large U.S. chain bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Hastings. Now that CPM introduced Korean cartoons under the brand name of "CPM Manhwa" and started publishing, a big bout between Korean "Manhwa" and Japanese "Manga" is expected in the U.S. market.

CPM explained on its own Internet web-site, ¡°In the past, cartoons were regarded as children¡¯s things, but Lee Hyun-se attracted grown-ups with his dramatic plots and descriptive adventure stories.¡± The company plans to translate Lee¡¯s 25 other comic books into English and put them on sale.
