A record has been revealed in which late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai said Korean people have lived in the northeastern region of China since ancient times and excavated relics clearly prove that Balhae is part of Korean history. The former Chinese premier¡¯s remarks have been made public through a document entitled ¡°Premier Zhou Enlai¡¯s Dialogue on Sino-[North] Korean Relations,¡± which former Korean lawmaker Seol Hun, who is doing research in China, posted on his website on Friday.

According to the document, the late Chinese premier said during a meeting with 20 North Korean scholars on June 28 in 1963 that some Chinese scholars¡¯ viewpoints on the national development of China and Korea were wrong. The North Korean scholars visited China for 42 days. Zhou Enlai also said, ¡°History can not be distorted. It is nonsense to say that the Tumen River and the western part of the Yalu River have belonged to China and Korea has been a subject country of China since ancient times.¡± ¡°These are errors of Chinese scholars and we have to correct them.¡±
The former Chinese premier said, ¡°Since Korean people came to the Korean Peninsula and the northeastern part of the mainland, they have lived there for a long time. This fact is proved by numerous Korean documents and relics and epitaphs unearthed around the Liaohe, Songhua and Tumen rivers.¡±
Former lawmaker Seol said, ¡°It is difficult to reveal who I obtained the document from, since it is an official Chinese document.¡±
