Lottery Separates Engaged Couple
A couple that was living together and engaged to be married are suing one another over the status of a lottery ticket that is worth W5.2 billion.

A 27-year-old man only known as A who lives in Jinhae, Gyeongsang Province is suing his girlfriend, known as B, and her family in Changwon District Court for the money won in the lottery.

According to an official, A jotted down lottery number as usual and gave B W50.000 to buy tickets, telling her, "Purchase lottery tickets and write down these numbers." The two had been living together since last year.

When the lottery was held on May 1, one of the tickets they purchased one a grand prize. Before tax, the prize stood at W5.28 billion and the actual amount received by the winner was W3.4 billion.

A immediately asked B whether she bought a lottery ticket with the numbers, but she replied that she didn't.

However, a friend of A told him that, "The first lottery prize winner bought the ticket from the shop where you usually buy tickets and somebody selected the numbers by him or herself." The boyfriend kept asking for three days and B finally confessed, saying, "I didn't tell you because if I did tell you, you would tell it to others. My mother has the ticket." Her confession made A full of hope.

B disappeared, however, after leaving the house to collect the ticket. Several days later, she came back after he promised her that he would not mention anything about the lottery ticket. The boyfriend continued to talk about the ticket, however, and the girlfriend again disappeared.

Therefore, A insisted, "Without any doubt, B bought the ticket and won the first prize." This is why he sued her.

"B was really a good person but she seems to have fallen to enticement from her family," A said. He added, "I would have to think about whether to take her back, even if she admits her mistakes and returns to me."
