China Marks East Sea as 'Sea of Japan'
About ten maps which were made by the Chinese government and other Chinese map producers marked the East Sea as the "Japan Sea", and countermeasures are vitally needed.

The head of The Association Working on Names of South Korean Territories, Lee Hyung-seok, noted Sunday that, "Maps that have been produced in China in the modern period have marked the East Sea as "Japan Sea." Lee added that, "The association will send copies of inspected maps and a petition asking for the government to demand rapid modification of those maps to Cheong Wa Dae."

Lee called for certain things to be corrected, namely กโ Bidam Island, the western-most point in the Korean Peninsula located in Sindo County, North Pyongang Province, is included as Chinese territory on Chinese maps; and กโ maps used in Korean geography and social studies textbooks mark the "West Sea" by its Chinese name, the "Yellow Sea."

The Association Working on Names of South Korean Territories was founded in 1984 and has been continuously investigated diverse academic areas including history, culture, social conditions, geography and customs which are related to territorial names.
