¡°Yon-sama¡± Bae Yong-jun has become a new face for Sony, Japan¡¯s representative corporation. Bae recently concluded an exclusive contract with Sony and secretly taped an advertisement for Sony¡¯s new camcorder in Namyangju, Gyeonggi province. It is known that Bae received about W1.3 billion from the Japanese electric home appliance maker for the advertisements.

Bae won the Sony advertisement instantly following his appearance in an ad for Otsuka Pharmacy. He earned W2.3 billion by taping two advertisements. Sony is a global company famous for its tendency to avoid star marketing. Therefore, Sony¡¯s unusual employment of Bae as its model is considered exceptional in Japan. Bae¡¯s advertisement will be aired across Japan starting August 7.

Bae Yong-jun¡¯s agency said that the taping of the advertisement had been kept secret because it was an advertisement of a state-of-the art product for a leading global company. Bae is enormously popular in Japan. He was selected as the second hottest news subject in the first half of the year by Japanese entertainment reporters. Bae¡¯s drama ¡°Winter Sonata,¡± in which he starred with Choi Ji-woo, has been broadcasted four times in Japan, due to its explosive popularity.
