Korean Pianist Performs With Japan's Crown Prince
A special concert was held in Tokyo over the weekend to celebrate the opening of a museum in Japan. The performance had a famous Korean pianist striking a harmonious tune with Japan's Crown Prince and other top musicians before a distinguished audience.

A Mozart piano quartet was what bridged Korea and Japan Sunday night. Renowned Korean conductor and pianist, Chung Myung-hun and Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito presented the Mozart composition at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum in Tokyo. They were joined by world-acclaimed cellist, Misha Maisky and the concertmaster of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Eiji Arai.

Some 100 prominent figures from both countries including Japan's Culture Minister as well as the Korean ambassador to Japan... tuned their ears to maestro Chung Myung-hun's caressing of the keyboard. Chung is one of the few Korean classical musicians to enjoy a high recognition in Japan.

"To have the incredible good fortune to have the Highness Prince be interested and also love this music and share it together is really a blessing."

Indeed, Crown Prince Naruhito himself is no stranger to the world of music. He has learned to master instruments like the violin and viola as is widely practiced under royal traditions. His talent led him to become the top viola player at Gakushuin University. The rare performance was a fundraising concert for the museum but it was significant in that it symbolized how Korea-Japan cultural relations have reached a higher plateau.
