NYT: "Russia Working to Host Inter-Korean Summit"
President Vladimir Putin
Russia is working to host an inter-Korean summit sometime this autumn in Vladivostok, according to The New York Times.

In its Sunday edition, The Times, quoting Russian experts on Korean issues, wrote that President Vladimir Putin was pushing for a summit between the two Korean leaders this coming fall.

Last week, the newspaper also ran a story on how the weekend visit by Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov to Seoul was to lay the groundwork for this summit.

But Mr. Lavrov rejected the speculation during a news conference here in Seoul, before he headed for Pyongyang.

On the nuclear issue, The New York Times reported, with Russia and other related countries ready to supply energy to North Korea, it expects the North to soften its stance in its 20-month-old standoff with the international community.
