SUZHOU, China -- The Goguryeo relics of North Korea and China were both registered as World Heritage Sites on Thursday during the 28th session of the World Heritage Committee in Suzhou, China.
The registered North Korean relics included the ¡°The Complex of the Goguryeo Tombs,¡± i.e., 63 Goguryeo tombs located throughout North Korea. This is the first time that North Korea has registered sites with the World Heritage List following its agreement to be part of UNESCO in 1998.

The tomb of King Gwanggaeto the Great located in Jian, China. It is one of the remains from the Goguryeo period designated as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO.

Along with North Korea, China also registered with the World Heritage List its "Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Goguryeo Kingdom." This includes 43 sites, including three fortresses, 13 royal tombs, 26 tombs from the nobility and the Stele of King Gwanggaeto the Great.
