Emergency Landing to Save a Little Girl¡¯s Life
Aboard a 10 o¡¯clock Korean Airline flight from Chicago to Incheon International Airport on Thursday, a 10-month-old Chinese-Indonesian girl named Sommer suddenly had difficulty breathing. Although it was three hours and thirty minutes since the take-off, an Indian doctor who was on board as one of the passengers strongly advised that she be "taken immediately to the hospital." After an emergency crew meeting, the flight crew decided to stop at the nearest airport, which was Vancouver Airport, for Sommer¡¯s emergency medical treatment. All 355 passengers praised the crew¡¯s prompt and immediate measures to save her life. Korean Airlines said, ¡°Though we lost thousands of won due to the flight delay and fuel costs, saving a girl¡¯s life was worth the trouble.¡±
