Korean golfers are distinguishing themselves while seven players made it among the top-10 at the McDonald¡¯s LPGA Championship, the second major this season.
At the opening of the first round in Wilmington, Delaware, the 'Koala' Park Hee-jung recorded five birdies and a bogey and is currently in second place, tied with Karen Stupples, while Jennifer Rosales is in the lead.
Park set out to study golf in Australia when she was in the 7th grade and became a three-time Australian Junior champion and was selected as the youngest player ever to be a member of the Australian National Team. Park became the Australian Amateur Stroke Play champion in 1997 at the age of 17 and became a pro golfer a year after.
Park was the youngest player to win the Ladies Open sponsored by Sports Seoul and also won a championship at the Sybase Big Apple Classic in 2002. Park has the nickname ¡°Koala¡± because of her round appearance.
Park has been in a slump since her second victory at the Big Apple Classic in 2002. Today, however, Park showed her excitement while making 14 birdie chances with her good iron shots.
