¡°Is it a camcorder or a digital camera?¡± The video recording functions of digital cameras have improved. Big makers such as Olympus, HP, Canon have introduced new models featured with larger LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitors and advance video-clip functions corresponding to the requirement of users who want to record still images and video-clips, all with one machine.
With Canon¡¯s new PowerShot S1 IS users now can zoom in and out while recording motion. Just like your ordinary camcorders it also features an anti-shaking system that prevents trembling video images. With the enhanced Movie Mode, you can record detailed movies with superior, flicker-free VGA resolution (640¡¿480) using a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second for camcorder-class smooth action. Users can record up to 1GB of movie -- 12 to 60 minutes, depending on resolution mode. The price of the PowerShot S1 IS is around \650,000. The C-770 UZ from Olympus is equipped with MPEG-4 movie mode, the latest video compression technology. With a 256MB memory card you can record up to 15 minuets in MPEG-4 format. It also allows users to pause and edit while viewing video-clips. The C-770 is priced around \700,000.
In late May, HP Korea introduced the 5 million pixel, compact sized HP PhotoSmart R707 with functions such as red-eye prevention. The advanced batteries let users record up to the memory card was full. The price range is between \400,000 and \500,000. The D-430, D-370 and the V series from Samsung Techwin have also improved their video-clip modes. Experts are forecasting that the boundaries between camcorders and digital cameras will vanish as video-clip functions and storage devices of the cameras develop.
