Controversy Expected over Online Sex Game
The Hankyoreh Shinmun reported Thursday that controversy is blowing concerning the anticipated appearance of online games that will feature characters that can engage in sexual acts in cyberspace.

The paper reported that the game company CMnet finished development of its online game "3Feel," which utilizes 3D graphics, and released a beta version Wednesday. Similar single-player games have appeared in the United States and Japan, but this is the first time a game of this nature has been released in online-form.

According to the Hankyoreh, the game will allow users to create online male and female characters who can engage in frank sexual acts, and in order to make the game more realistic, the game designers utilized "motion capture" technology in which sensors where attached to the bodies of Korean adult film stars and their motions captured digitally.

The paper reported that the Korea Media Rating Board said 3Feel would probably fail the board's rating process, despite being an adult-use product, and it was therefore unlikely that the game would be made available for local service. The KMRB said, however, that if the game were made available through servers abroad, there would be no way to completely block local online gamers from connecting, so much social criticism was expected once the game goes into service.

According to the Hankyoreh, CMnet plans to export game service to companies in Japan and the United States, and its game site will open in August.
