Korean Students Believe U.S. Most Opposed to Reunification
According to an online survey of 1,270 college students across the nation, 49.1 percent responded that among the four neighboring great powers, the U.S. would most oppose the reunification of Korea, followed by Japan (35.7 percent), China (10.3 percent) and Russia (5.0 percent).

On the other hand, 38.3 percent of respondents picked China as the country that supports reunification the most. The U.S. came in second place (28.4 percent), Russia in third (25.8 percent) and Japan in fourth (7.4 percent.)

When asked about the need for U.S. forces to be stationed in Korea, 73.1 percent responded that it is necessary for the security of Korea, far more than those who said U.S. troops are unnecessary (26.3 percent). Still, most of the respondents said the relationship between Korea and the U.S. is very or generally unequal (87.1 percent).

In response to the question ˇ°Could you marry a North Korean person?ˇ± 42.9 percent said, ˇ°Yes, I could.ˇ±

By sex, more male students (58.7 percent) appeared to be willing to marry a North Korean than female students (24.1 percent).

The survey was conducted by the public opinion poll specialist Poll Ever at the request of the Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification from May 19 to 22.

The survey's reliability was 95 percent and its maximum allowable sample error was +-2.8 percent points.
