Hyundai Beats Toyota in U.S. Quality Ranking
A new survey on car quality highlighted Hyundai Motor Co.'s impressive strides in customer satisfaction. Hyundai, the nation¡¯s largest automaker, said Wednesday that its three models -- Santa Fe, Elantra and Sonata -- ranked No. 1 in their segments in Strategic Vision's 2004 Total Quality Index(TQI) survey. This marks the first time that Hyundai clenched the top spot in three categories.

In particular, the Santa Fe took the top spot in the small SUV segment for the second consecutive year.

Strategic Vision, the San Diego-based research firm, conducted a study on 3,9290 customers who bought their car between last October and December and assessed new buyers' responses in 19 categories, including buying, owning and driving their new vehicles. The calculations also include emotional satisfaction.

The research firm stressed that Hyundai has made impressive progress in quality, saying besides Hyundai¡¯s three models that topped their segments, others also ranked among the top five in their categories.

Prior to this, Hyundai ranked 7th spot in this year's IQS (initial quality survey) by J. D. Power & Associates, beating Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW.
