Grand National Party spokesman Han Seon-gyo said Friday that, "We respect and accede to the Constitutional Court's decision, as we've already promised repeatedly to the citizens." In a written opinion statement, he said, "I believe this first-ever impeachment decision will be recorded as an opportunity for maturing the democracy of the Republic of Korea... Our party now humbly accepts the will of the people and will actively get to work on the urgent business of saving the economy and livelihood of the people."

He added, "During the last two months in which his duties were suspended, President Roh must have deeply self-reflected on his errors and adopted a new attitude... If the Roh administration devotes itself to national affairs, we will not hold back our cooperation, but if he once again breaks the law and engages in outrageous political games, we will strongly criticize it and not be meek in carrying out our duty, as the opposition, to restrain [Roh and the ruling Uri Party]."

The Uri Party welcomed the impeachment dismissal Friday, saying, "It was a great victory made by the people's will to protect democracy. Right prevails in the end." Even though the Uri Party said it is hoping that the decision to dismiss the impeachment will become an opportunity for the achievement of politics of co-existence and harmony in the 17th National Assembly, it also applied pressure on the GNP, calling for it to apologize to the people for its leading role in the impeachment.

Uri Party head Chung Dong-young said in a statement right after the dismissal decision, "The Constitutional Court's decision, as a confirmation of the genuine popular will of the people in a constitutional body, was an instance in which the sentiment of the majority of every-day people and the judgment of a constitutional body were in harmony, and this is a thankful and happy thing."
Democratic Labor Party chairman Kwon Young-ghil expresses his official position on the Constitutional Court¡¯s ruling to dismiss the impeachment on Friday.

The Democratic Labor Party also welcomed the impeachment dismissal Friday, calling it "a decision that reflects legal reasoning and the will of the people." Spokesman Kim Jong-cheol said in a written opinion statement, "It's quite fortunate that the decision was reached before the convening of the National Assembly, as this can prevent [the impeachment] from becoming a point of contention... We hope President Roh apologizes for the burdensome public insecurity resulting from his impeachment and afterwards engages in the politics of unity. The GNP, too, must apologize before the people and pledge that they will prevent this from happening again."
