The (North) Korean Central News Agency said on Sunday that the North Korea Stamp Corporation issued two sorts of Dokdo Islet postage stamps emphasizing that the Dokdo Islet is a territory of the Korean peninsula.
According to the KCNA, the stamp set entitled "Dokdo of Joseon's Islands,ˇ± includes a small sized paper, three stamps and an attached tag.
A map of the Joseon peninsula is published on the left side of the small paper, which shows the eight districts in the 18th century, while the feature of a lighthouse on the Dokdo Islet is printed on the right.
Rhee Young-Shil from the North Korea Stamp Corporation and Choi Chul-Man, who designed the stamp, said in a recent interview with the KCNA that the stamps in fact show that the Dokdo Islet historically belongs to the Korean peninsula. They also mentioned that that they will continue to issue stamps of nature and geography to ˇ°Contribute in firmly protecting and enhancing my precious country and the rivers and mountains.ˇ±
The Japanese Postal Service issued Dokdo stamps a total of three times from the end of last January to February 19, with registrations from non-official citizens.
The Japanese Postal Service, however, later expressed that the stamp issues were misjudgments and refused the issuance requests from professors and other citizens. The Japanese press reported that the postal service also disapproved the applications from a conservative group of legislators.
The KCNA said on March 13 that the Dokdo stamps issued from Japan is intentionally aimed at raising a dispute and opening a way for reinvasion, and urged Japan to stop the groundless assertion on its dominium.
The South Korea Post also issued four types of Dokdo postage stamps on January 16 entitled ˇ°The Nature of Dokdoˇ± which consists of flowers and birds along the Dokdo Islet as well.
