Engravings by Gunter Grass On Display
Woman and Fish (1973)
There is good news for Gunter Grass fans. Visual gallery Godo is to host an exhibition from April 7 to 15 for engravings by the German writer. This is a once in a lifetime chance to witness the literary world of the Nobel Prize winning author not only through his writings but also through his paintings.

As the well-known writer of ¡°The Tin Drum,¡± Grass studied art in Dusseldorf and Berlin. He used to carry charcoal and pencils everywhere he went to sketch, but this time, his aquarelle and engravings are on display.

Frogs, mushrooms, eels, flatfish, snails, and feathers are subjects mostly depicted in his art works. Many writers combine literature and art, but Grass is special because not many writers start to paint at the early stage of story writing.

Unfolding Grass¡¯ story and the drawings simultaneously, people visiting the exhibition can view the ¡°writer¡¯s version¡± of images, which they had imagined while reading his stories. For instance, ¡°Woman and Fish¡± is a painting about his masterpiece ¡°The Flounder.¡± Other art works include ¡°Man Blowing a Feather¡± and ¡°Man in the Eyes of the Snail¡± and his self-portrait.
