Public Catches Glimpse of Impeached President's Daily Life

President's E-Mail Box Overflowing with Voter Solidarity
For the first time in more than a week since the impeachment of President Roh Moo-hyun, Cheong Wa Dae released photos of the President at his official residence Sunday. They show him wearing hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) while reading a report, looking out the window and hiking with the First Lady Kwon Yang-sook.

In the wake of the impeachment motion passing in the National Assembly nine days ago, Roh has kept a low profile. The Senior Secretary for Public Information thought it best to let the public see the President's daily schedule, sources said.

A Cheong Wa Dae staffer who recently met with Roh said that the President is contemplating whether or not to link the general election to the vote of confidence.

At a press conference on March 11, just a day before the impeachment passed the National Assembly, Roh said that he would specify his plan to link the general election results to his vote of confidence at a later time. This is the same remark that prompted the two opposition parties to begin impeachment proceedings against him.

Although much has changed in the political arena, Roh thinks that he should keep his promise to the people concerning the "general election and the confidence vote," Cheong Wa Dae staffers said. However, Roh said that he is reluctant to take any action, knowing it would only trigger political conflict especially when the popularity of the Uri Party is increasing.

Meanwhile, Roh met with one of his staffers last week and asked about the present state of the "outside world." He is reportedly reading the newspapers very carefully, sources said.
