The girl, whose last name was Mun, left behind a six-page suicide note. In it, she expressed remorse to her boyfriend for a botched eyelid operation. "The reason I wanted to break up is because the 'double eyelid' surgery I had done turned out poorly, so it seems like people are always staring at me, and I felt guilty. It's not because I didn't love you [her boyfriend]," she wrote.

A police official said, "Ms. Mun, who was 156 cm tall with a cute face, normally didn't worry about how she looked, but in late December during the winter vacation last year, she had 'double eyelid' surgery performed at some cosmetic surgery clinic in Su-yeong-dong, Busan. After the surgery, she became seriously depressed because of scars left behind and other side effects."
