U.S. Jewish Group Demands Investigation into Alleged NK Gas Chambers
The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a U.S.-based Jewish human rights group, has urged the United Nations to set up an international tribunal and investigate the allegations that North Korea is conducting gas chamber experiments on political prisoners, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.

Following the airing of a television documentary by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Abraham Cooper, the center¡¯s associate dean, issued a statement which said, ¡°This brings to mind the imagery of Nazi gas chambers and the horrific experiments at Auschwitz and Imperial Japan's Unit 731.¡±

¡°Silence is admittance (of these crimes) and such state-sanctioned barbarities demand action,'' Cooper said.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center urged the United Nations to establish an international tribunal to investigate the allegations. According to the AP report, however, it is virtually certain that totalitarian North Korea, which keeps out most foreigners and views outside criticism as an infringement of its sovereignty, would not agree to any investigation on its soil.
