Foreign Minister Yoon Young-kwan summoned Japanese Ambassador to South Korea Takano Toshiyuki on Friday, telling Toshiyuki said that it is regrettable that Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visit happened when Korea and Japan were supposed to be attaching significant importance to their diplomatic ties, especially not long since the start of Roh's administration. Yoon said that Japan should take a positive attitude not to offend Korean citizens.

Spokesperson Park Jin of the Grand National Party, said that this is a peace breaking, shocking act. He also said that Koizumi must apologize for and clarify his actions to international society and to history itself.

Yu Jong-pil, spokesperson for the Millennium Democratic Party, said that paying respects at Yasukuni Shrine is another invasion for people and nations who long suffered from the pains of the Japanese invasion.

Lee Pyeong-su, the spokesperson for the Uri Party, said that Koizumi has visited the shrine four times since his inauguration, and this seems to be a serious threat to world peace. (Kwon Kyong-bok, kkb@chosun.com )
