Discussing the recently emerging issue of Chinese distortions of Koguryo history, poet Kim Ji-ha said that a "history war" with China was likely to break out within the next five years.
Kim was speaking Wednesday at an academic forum on the issue entitled "Koguryo equals China: What is China's logic?", sponsored by the Koguryo Research Center and held at the Seoul Press Center.
Kim said that within five years, China would seek to become the center of Northeast Asia. Korea must strive to become the economic and cultural "hub" of the region before this can happen and bring about an "Eastern Renaissance," Kim said, but warned that a logical war -- a "War of History" -- was likely to begin between those striving for such a "Renaissance" and those who blindly follow China.
Kim said that the history of Korea's northern regions is sacred and has a spirit that makes his heart beat. He also noted that where there is danger, there is opportunity, and expressed hope that research into Koguryo's past would serve as a catalyst to bringing about a new era of culture and history.
