A leading European daily carried an article comparing the quality of a camera-phone made by Samsung Electronics to a Benz car.

Samsung Electronics said Sunday that the Aftenposten, the largest daily newspaper in Norway, called Samsung's product the "Benz of mobile phones" in an article comparing the quality of cellular phones to the brand value of passenger cars.

In August, Samsung released the model SGH-E700, a folding "intenna" phone, a camera phone with a built-in flash and a bar-type color phone.

The product is unique in that the camera is attached in front of the handset and the LCD on the outside functions as a display, allowing the user to take photos without opening the handset.

The phone is targeted at high-income professionals, a Samsung official said.

Aftenposten said the SGH-E700 is similar to a Benz car, in that the camera-phone is a symbol of high social status, wealth and tradition.

In the same article, the daily compared Nokia's 3410 mobile phone as Hyundai Motor's passenger model, saying the Nokia product is simple, trustworthy and runs smoothly. (Paik Seung-jae, whitesj@chosun.com )
