The Grand National Party (GNP), Millennium Democratic Party (MDP), Uri Party and the United Liberal Democrats (ULD) said they would begin discussions Monday to normalize the situation in the National Assembly.
Party representatives are to have a joint meeting with National Assembly speaker Park Kwan-yong that day.
The MDP¡¯s top lawmaker, Chough Soon-hyung, is reportedly scheduled to meet GNP member Choe Byung-yul to convey party endorsement in reconsidering the bill for a special committee that President Roh Moo-hyun had previously rejected. In addition, Chough reportedly will ask the opposition party to return to the National Assembly.
Choe said that the most important issue is trust among parties. If the parties are sure that the bill will be passed, Choe said, ¡°why not reconsider it?¡±
GNP Spokesperson Park Jin said Choe refused to meet with President Roh Moo-hyun when Cheong Wa Dae chief of staff Moon Hee-sang offered to arrange a meeting. Choe told Moon that it would be useless to meet with Roh after Roh¡¯s veto of the bill.
