President Roh Willing to Face Prosecution Probe
President Roh Moo-hyun has expressed his intentions to face a prosecution probe if deemed necessary. Appearing in a local television program Friday night, the Chief Executive stressed he is ready to answer any questions to help clear the suspicions surrounding him in connection with corruption charges against his former aides.

This in response to the main opposition Grand National Party's recent demand that the prosecution investigate the President on charges of bribe-taking.

"Should prosecutors deem it necessary, they can come to Cheong Wa Dae for questioning." Roh said.

In a nationally-televised interview with SBS, President Roh said he too can be the target of the ongoing prosecution probe into alleged corruption charges against former presidential aides, adding he felt the responsibility to show the public that the president is cooperating with the investigation.

His remarks followed the opposition party's claim on Thursday that President Roh's acceptance of financial aid from longtime supporters during last year's presidential race constitutes bribery in a broad sense.

The Chief Executive also said he will seek a national referendum on his leadership after the prosecution wraps up the probe.

On the controversy over his recent rejection of a parliamentary decision to launch an independent counsel probe into his former aides, President Roh said it is inappropriate to open a special investigation when state prosecutors are already looking into the case.

The President stressed he will ask for a special probe if the outcome of the ongoing probe falls short of expectations. Arirang TV
