Arrivals From Singapore Face SARS Inspections
Following the recent report of a suspected case of severe acute respiratory syndrome in Singapore, the National Institute of Health said Tuesday that it would carry out medical inspections on travelers coming from Singapore.

¡°To prevent the inflow of the SARS virus to Korea, we will conduct a survey on travelers from Singapore, asking each whether they have a fever and take their body temperatures using infrared cameras at quarantine stations in the Incheon, Gimhae and Cheju airports beginning today,¡± said Kwon Jun-wook, director of the institute's anti-epidemic division.

The institute has put into operation the SARS monitoring system, mobilizing 47 experts and 125 emergency medial institutions across the country, while instructing employees at quarantine stations and hospitals to be inoculated against influenza.

If the overseas SARS case is eventually confirmed, the institute plans to issue a warning against SARS and take measures like conducting quarantines on travelers from affected countries and advising people to avoid trips to these countries. (Kim Dong-seop, dskim@chosun.com )
