The former Daewoo Motor's commercial-vehicle division in Gunsan, South Jeolla Province, is to be sold off through a open bidding in July.
The truck division of the now-bankrupt car firm separated from Daewoo Motor in October last year and has been under the supervision of the creditor banks. The plant has an annual production capacity of 20,000 units.
Lee Jong-dae, the court-appointed administrator for the carmaker, told the Chosun Ilbo on Tuesday that the creditors recently selected KPMG as the sales leader for the truck division and that the agency is expected to send the bidding documents to potential buyers next month.
Of the major plants of the former Daewoo Motor, once the second-largest carmaker in Korea, General Motors bought the passenger-car plants in Changweon and Gunsan, while YoungAn Hat Co., the world's biggest headwear maker, based in Korea, purchased the bus manufacturing operations in Busan. GM is also likely to soon take over Daewoo's largest and oldest passenger plant, in Bupyeong.
The Daewoo creditors have not been able to make any headway in their bid to sell off Daewoo's 15 plants, located in 11 countries.
