The Seoul District Court on Thursday dismissed charges against the owners of Soribada, the local Internet peer-to-peer file sharing company.

The ruling judge said the charges were dropped because the Website merely connected servers without specific mention as to how, when or who helped in infringing on intellectual properties rights.

The Public Prosecutors Office said that because the court did not give a judgment of guilty or not guilty, it will appeal.

Two brothers created the Soribada Website in May 2000 and have developed programs for members to share MP3 music files without paying fees. They were indicted without detainment in August 2001 for infringing copyrights.

The server Soribada uses was suspended last July by court order but a new Soribada II program is currently running in which peer-to-peer networking allows sharing of music files.
